I love to wander around Reading Terminal Market when I come to Philadelphia. The downside is there is a lot of meat there. I mean a lot. I guess that is because the locavore scene is largely about meat these days. But there are some good local produce stands as well, a vegetarian place to eat, a little spice store, a book store, some bakeries, etc. It's a funky place where you can get some local produce (I got some white cherries and peaches) and you can people watch to your heart's content.

basic 4 veg snack bar has the best vegetarian philly cheese steak money can buy in philly, even better than the one w/ real meat.
There is tons of meat at the R.T. Market. The worst is the fish laying on ice staring up at you. I think the smell is what gets to me. The spice shop is my favorite though...and fresh coffee from all over!
did you get to try basic 4 vegetarians philly cheese steak? best veggie cheesesteak in the city
It looks so interesting! I wanted to go there while we were in Philly, but my whole family had other ideas.
I have just been looking at your blog and find it very colourful and entertaining. I am a vegeterian myself but have not yet traveled.
Hey
cool blog!
I'm not a vegan but I am a vegetarian. How difficult do you think the transition between the two would be?
I am here for the first time!! I do not eat egg and meat too..so I surely would read and visit more often! Very nicely done blog...cheers
I love the market in Reading, PA, and I love that you highlighted your visit on "Vegan Dad". You're providing multiple options and ideas for vegans and would-be vegans. Congrats on being a Blog of Note.

Hey! I am not a vegetarian but it looks so interesting for me!
I love the Reading Market when I visited Philadelphia, and I appreciate that you covered this wonderful place in your blog. You're expanding the options for those who may be thinking about becoming a vegan. I've added your blog to my page as a recommended link!

Vegan diner food is my favorite! I miss "Chicken fried steak" at the Paradox Cafe in Portland, OR--but fortunately I can still get mac and "cheese" here in the DC area.
Great post! Thanks for the inspiration!
Everytime I go to Philly I visit that spice store to stock up. There's a bread stoe not far way that's amazing. I think Reaing is my favorite place to go in Philly. And for a history geek like me that's saying something!
gonna have to agree with other commenters - the cheesesteak at Basic 4 is the best I've ever had, even when I did eat meat! Also, they make fresh-pressed ginger beer that will clear out your sinuses in a sip! their lunch is so good, even my carni dad eats there.
