Smoked Tofu Pizza

This is my favourite new pizza.  It's kind of a version of Pizza Alla Pugliese, a sauceless pizza with smoked cheese.  Instead, I use smoked tofu (another new favourite thing) and Daiya.  I'm usually not the biggest fan of too much ye olde vegan cheese on pizza, but this particular combo strikes me as delicious.  Use as much or as little as you see fit.

INGREDIENTS
- sweet onion, halved and sliced
- smoked tofu, grated
- Daiya
- olive oil

METHOD
1. Saute onions over med-hi heat in some olive oil until lightly browned.  Place as much onion as you see fit on a pizza crust, top with as much grated smoked tofu and Daiya as you like.  Drizzle some olive oil over the toppings.
2. Bake on a pizza stone at 500 degrees until crust is done.

Great pizza dough recipe! I couldn't find smoked tofu tonight, I had to rush home, but I made a smoke flavored tofu using liquid smoke, soy sauce, rice vinegar and maple syrup. The pizza was amazing!

Sounds very good. Just curious why no tomato sauce? Your recipe almost seems more like a cheesy bread plus tofu.

Made this tonight and turned out amazing! Tweaked a bit in that I caramelized my onions, and used Tree of Life brand "Hot 'n Spicy" smoked tofu, but such a great idea! Thanks for this! :)

hi vegan dad! this recipe looks great--one thing i'm wondering about is the smoked tofu. i live in Norway and it's hard enough finding regular tofu here! so i'm wondering, what do you think about marinating some extra firm tofu in a bit of smoked hickory? pressing, then using it to top the pizza? :)

I have been trying to be a pescetarian (giving up fish is just too much for me) on and off. It is quite difficult especially with people constantly tempting me with pizza and burgers. I will give this pizza recipe a try and this time convince them that vegan is just as, if not even more delicious!

This was awesome.
Made my own smoked tofu, and added some salt and peper to the onions.
Also mixed in a bit of the Havarti style Daiya to the cheese. Yum!

I, too, almost never put vegan mozz on my pizzas, but I made one recently with Daiya and caramelized onions which was a pretty excellent combination, IMHO. I also love anything smoked, so I should try your combo out too! Thanks for sharing.
