Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns

I ran out of white flour while making buns and improvised to make this whole wheat version. They are very tasty! Pictured here are the mini buns I make for vegan slyders, but you get the idea.

- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 3 tbsp vital wheat gluten
- 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup soy milk
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil

Use the method from this post.

Son #2 insisted I take a picture of his meal for the blog. He arranged his burger and veggies very nicely on the plate. Kind of look like PacMan.

Those slyders look delicious! I love your site so much!! I was raised by my dad on a vegan/rawfoods diet, and I think it's great to see another dad who is into eating vegan and cooking for his kids. Keep it up!!

ps- do you have any tips for packing lunches??

Awesome! I don't eat white flour at all (unless I'm eating out), so these sound perfect. I've been buying those sprouted grain buns, but homemade is always better.

Oh wow - I have to make these! My husband just loves burger buns but I can never find ones that don't have high fructose corn syrup in them! You are an inspiration for what I hope my husband will be someday.

PacMan eating a cherry or something; what else in that game was red?
Or maybe he's sticking out his tongue?

The buns look like they'd be tasty for snacking, mmm.

Oh wow - these were AMAZING - I made them yesterday and when my partner got home from work he was super excited and ate three for dinner!!! I halved the recipe and cooked them in my little toaster oven. I also didn't have a dough hook so I kneaded by hand. You can have a look on my blog if you like:

I am so happy that I found your site. I made these today and divided them into 12 large buns. Absolutely AMAZING! My husband and all of the kids ate every last crumb on their plates. We will never buy buns again!

I plan on making them again tomorrow to stock up the freezer. :) Thanks!
